When two women enter a gym—one armed with a camera, the other with muscles—you know it's going to be a session of heavy lifting. Spoiler alert: someone's going home sore in this story - it's always me! Picture me, the contorted photographer, capturing the perfect shot while squatting for a solid two hours.
Tynisha Johnson is the force behind Ty2Fit, a dear friend, and an exceptional trainer and nutritionist (I've had the pleasure of being trained by her). Little did I know that what started as a photoshoot would turn into my own impromptu training session.
As someone who hadn't hit the gym in about two months, each position needed a stretch to accompany it. But enough of my pain.... I faced the challenge of shooting in a fully operational (and crowded) gym without capturing the chaos of dirty mirrors and scattered equipment. Armed with a single small softbox, I embarked on capturing high-intensity images that truly reflected Ty's dedication.
Photographing a trainer in action is no easy feat. While adjusting for the perfect shot, I learned some crucial lessons: weights are heavy (don't forget to tell your client to relax!), opt for lighter weights to showcase pleasant facial expressions over pure, aggressive strength, and most importantly, know your limits when capturing action shots in a gym. You don't want to end any session with potential injuries to the client or yourself.
Despite the challenges, exploring every nook of the gym, trying out equipment, and even getting into a squat or plank position for the shot made the experience a true adventure. In the end, the images captured Ty's strength, dedication, and the story we set out to tell. So, here's to sweat, shutters, and squats—a memorable session that goes beyond the lens and into the heart of Ty2Fit's vibrant brand. Always remember: have fun, embrace the gym's offerings, and don't be afraid to get in the zone for that perfect shot!
